Practice Philosophy Statement

Cosmetic surgery is a personal and impactful experience that should stem from thoughtful consideration. Dr. Davitt believes cosmetic procedures should enhance a patient’s natural features while respecting the body’s anatomy, proportions, and qualities that make that person unique.

One principle that influenced his aesthetic approach is the idea of restoring the “beautiful normal.” Rather than an exaggerated, visibly altered appearance, he aims to achieve refined, balanced, and proportioned results for the patient.

Dr. Davitt also believes patients deserve honest, professional assessments supported by science. He takes the time to explain what a procedure can reasonably accomplish so patients can have realistic expectations and move forward in their decisions with confidence. Dr. Davitt’s priority is to do right by the patient, even when that guidance does not lead to an operation.

Patient Care Approach: What to Expect During Your Consultation

Dr. Davitt recognizes that plastic surgery is an important personal decision that requires trust, open communication, and realistic expectations. His goal is to create a comfortable environment where patients can speak candidly about what they would like to change and any other concerns they have about surgery, recovery, or their results.

During your consultation, Dr. Davitt will ask you to explain why you are considering plastic surgery and what you hope to achieve. He will listen carefully, review your medical records, evaluate the area you would like to address, and explain which treatment options may best be suitable for you.

Patient education is central to Dr. Davitt’s consultation process, alongside the provision of reliable and trustworthy information. This looks like a discussion of the potential benefits of the surgical procedure, the recovery timeline, risks, and expected outcomes. He believes patients should leave the consultation with a clear understanding of their choices and, in return, an equal understanding of their needs and concerns.

About Dr. Davitt

Dr. Davitt was drawn to plastic surgery because he likes to see his results gradually transform each patient and be creative with the process. Unlike surgical problems that may have only one conventional approach, plastic surgery requires the surgeon to consider the individualization of the patient, which means careful consideration of the patient’s anatomy, goals, lifestyle, and concerns is essential when creating a treatment plan.

His general surgery experience establishes a strong foundation in anatomy, surgical judgment, tissue handling, and post-operative care. During his plastic surgery training at UT Southwestern, Dr. Davitt gained experience across the breast, body, facial, and reconstructive procedures. He was particularly drawn to tummy tuck surgery, liposuction, and body contouring after significant weight loss. Dr. Davitt finds body contouring procedures rewarding because their effectiveness goes beyond physical appearance. Removing excess skin and reshaping underlying tissue can change how clothing fits and how patients feel as they move through their daily lives.

Expertise in Wound Healing and Scar Minimization

From 2019 to 2021, Dr. Davitt served as a postdoctoral scholar in Stanford University’s Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, researching cellular determinants of fibrosis and scarring. His work also required mentoring medical and undergraduate student researchers, while serving outpatients with advanced wound care needs.

Dr. Davitt’s research background gives him a deeper understanding of the biological factors involved in tissue repair and scar development, enabling him to provide exceptional post-surgical care and monitor advanced wound healing and incisions throughout the recovery process. Scars are a reality after every procedure, but Dr. Davitt provides exceptional care and advice in reducing this risk.

A Creative and Individualized Approach to Plastic Surgery

When Dr. Davitt studied in Florence, Italy, he truly saw beauty in the world and how it transformed throughout the years. This experience strengthened his appreciation for art, creativity, anatomy, proportion, and observation. Studying the progression of Renaissance art showed him how close observation of the human form can influence the development of new techniques. This idea continues to fuel his thoughtful and individualized approach to plastic surgery.

Outside of Renaissance art, Dr. Davitt also enjoys playing tennis, nature photography, and skiing.
